Project Overview
Our client needed to record the condition of the roof in relation to a dilapidations claim, however the site borders airside at London Heathrow Airport and platform lifts were not feasible.
We were able to safely operate from landside in coordination with the Airside Operations team, throughout pre-flight planning and on site, successfully capturing high resolution images of the roof areas.

Challenge
Due to the sensitivity around airports, particularly with drone flights, we first liaised with air traffic control and other contacts at Heathrow to confirm the process to fly safely at this high risk location.
This included the preparation of detailed RAMS and flight methodology to obtain a special drone permit, and providing CAA authorisation, building owner permission and sufficient insurance documentation.
Approach
To provide further assurances, our inspection was accompanied by a member of the operations team who stayed airside and communicated with the pilot via radio contact to monitor live progress.
The flight was contained within the demise at all times and at the end of the operation, the data was reviewed on site with the member of the operations team to ensure no sensitive areas were captured.
