Project Overview

Our client was instructed to undertake a suite of condition surveys on behalf of Alliance Automotive, incorporating six trade counter units across the Republic of Ireland, including sites in Dublin and County of Tipperary.

The purpose of the drone surveys was to facilitate the inspection of roofs and elevated sections, capturing the condition and supplying comprehensive data for surveyors to incorporate into their reports.

Challenge

Given Brexit and UK's departure from the EU, registering with the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) posed a unique challenge, as drone operations in Ireland do not fall within the jurisdiction of the UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Furthermore, two trade counter units were located within restricted airspace, relating to activity at Dublin Airport. As a result, it was also necessary to submit controlled airspace applications to Air Traffic Control Operations.

Approach

To legally register with the IAA, we meticulously followed their protocols, provided documentation such as proof of competency, insurance, aircraft registration, and understanding Ireland's specific airspace regulations.

We navigated the process with the IAA & EU Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as a UK drone operator, and our diligent approach ensured operational compliance and safety across international borders, now and in the future.
