Project Overview
Survey Air carried out drone surveys across a portfolio of 7no B&Q retail sites located throughout the UK. The purpose of the inspections was to assist the surveyors in assessing the condition of the roof elements, elevations, and external yard areas.
Sites ranged from 37,400 to 143,000 square feet and were grouped by region to streamline delivery across the North, Scotland, Midlands and South. Locations included Edinburgh, Rotherham, Stockton-on-Tees, Redditch, Derby, Huntingdon and Southampton.

Challenge
The primary challenge was coordinating inspections of seven complex retail sites spread across the UK. Each site had different access constraints, levels of activity, and surrounding risk factors requiring precise planning and site-specific flight assessments.
Factors such as local airspace restrictions, weather conditions, daylight hours, ongoing site operations, and the presence of retail customers, rooftop plant or live loading bays were also considered to ensure safe and uninterrupted flights.
Approach
Survey Air deployed multiple UAV teams operating in parallel across the designated regions over a two-day period, following a pre-agreed inspection schedule that aligned with access times and operational considerations for each site.
All flights were conducted in compliance with CAA regulations. The resulting imagery was processed and delivered within 24 hours of capture, providing the survey team with detailed visual references to inform their condition reporting and maintenance strategies.
