Project Overview

Survey Air conducted drone surveys for a portfolio of 8no HGV maintenance depots across the East Midlands. The client, a national logistics provider, required aerial inspections to assist surveyors in assessing the existing condition of their sites.

The data captured was used to produce high-resolution imagery and annotated survey map outputs, enabling remote assessment of roof areas, elevations and external yard areas without disruption to ongoing maintenance and fleet activity.

Challenge

The primary challenge was the need to conduct drone inspections with limited operational and access parameters. This included the client requirement to attend each site on separate and consecutive days in the Northampton region.

Additionally, active maintenance zones demanded strict safety measures and close coordination with on-site teams. Further challenges presented were due to height, plant equipment, or an increase in site activity on the day of flight.

Approach

Our team implemented a phased inspection strategy, developing a comprehensive drone survey schedule to capture all sites over a set period, and liaised with the relevant depot managers to confirm safe operating windows.

All sites were documented using high-resolution oblique and top-down aerial imagery, with particular attention given to roof detailing, cladding interfaces, drainage elements, and surface conditions in the yard areas.
