Project Overview

Our client was instructed to undertake technical due diligence on a proposed acquisition of student accommodation in Newcastle, totalling over 122,000 sq ft, comprising three connected blocks between four and nine storeys.

The purpose of the drone survey was to support inspection of the roof and high-level areas, record the condition and provide sufficient data for the surveyors to deliver informed analysis within their reports.

Challenge

The extent of survey included all roof areas and high-level elements such as flat roofs, rooflights, rainwater goods and HVAC equipment. The drone survey required mitigation with the survey location so close to the River Tyne.

With the use of the premises as a university accommodation, and primarily due to the presence of students, it was important to closely liaise with on-site staff to ensure that all relevant personnel had been notified.

Approach

During the pre-flight planning process, it was necessary to determine suitable pilot positioning and movement to ensure operational areas were not disrupted and Northumbria Police were informed beforehand.

Our skilled drone pilots followed traditional survey methodology, a comprehensive top-down approach of key building elements, supported with an interactive map showing the photo locations via our dedicated client portal.
