Project Overview
Survey Air were instructed to carry out a drone flight at Stansted Cargo Area to promote recent civil improvement works to the HGV areas, pedestrian crossings, safety barriers and line markings.
Our brief was to capture aerial images and video footage of the improvement works to show the full impact of the changes post completion, which were delivered in high resolution for use in digital marketing.

Challenge
The site borders London Stansted Airport with the main runway and control tower situated less than 50m from the operation area. The location is heavily restricted and numerous prior approvals required to enable safe flight.
Due to the close proximity of airside operations, it was necessary to unlock in-built restriction in the aircraft before attending site and operate at a maximum altitude of 48m to comply with NATS safeguarding zones.
Approach
In communication with our contacts at London Stansted Airport, we obtained the relevant permit to fly at this location, subject to pre-flight conditions set by Airfield Operations, NATS, Air Traffic Control and Essex Police.
On the day of flight, our team encountered snowy conditions and freezing temperatures which had to be sufficiently mitigated to ensure flight safety, such as increased equipment checks or use of polarised sunglasses and warm gloves.
