Project Overview
Our client instructed detailed drone surveys covering the building elevations and roof areas with a specific focus on the cantilevered balcony areas to periodically assess their condition over period of time.
The purpose of the survey was to capture sufficient imagery to produce a comprehensive structural engineering appraisal and identify items of fabric in disrepair that require remedial works.

Challenge
The building is extremely large, making it difficult to gain access to inspect many areas on the roof and elevations, located in a highly congested area and set within a no-fly zone in controlled airspace.
Due to concerns about defective masonry and concrete to the underside of the balcony areas and high-level cornices, our client requested that we capture images from all angles and close ups of key elements.
Approach
Survey Air created a unique referencing system to store the data, detailing annotations on site plans and using the construction of the building to dictate our methodology. In coordination with on-site staff, our team managed to achieve the data capture in one day.
To capture the underside of balconies and cornices, we utilised our new DJI Mini 3 Pro drone, as this aircraft has an extended upward gimbal rotation of up to 100 degrees while weighing under 250g to comply with airspace approvals.
