Project Overview

Upton House is a National Trust country mansion and gardens in Warwickshire, a honey coloured 1930s country retreat with dramatic terraced gardens and home to world-renowned art collections.

The purpose of the survey was to capture all roof areas and high-level elements such as pitched roofs, flat roofs, rooflights, rainwater goods and chimneys, where closer inspection was required to further assess their condition.

Challenge

Due the complexities of construction, and rural setting, the properties were difficult to inspect from ground level or using traditional MEWPs, and most high-level areas were either too dangerous or impossible to access.

With the estate in constant use as a National Trust Visitor Centre, it was necessary to operate outside of opening hours, provide site-specific RAMS and confirm approximate flight times in order to notify horse owners nearby.

Approach

To establish a safe working environment, our inspections were carried with the appropriate PPE and our take-off and landing site was set up in various positions in the wider gardens to achieve a better position and maintain visual line of sight (VLOS).

The time constraints meant that it was important to maintain communication with on-site staff and conduct the survey as efficiently as possible. With sufficient preparations, we completed the survey with no disruption to National Trust operations.
